Sound of Kashmir — Pt. Abhay Sopori | Amstelkerk Amsterdam
Some music doesn’t just move you — it stills you.
Pt. Abhay Sopori, son of the legendary Pandit Bhajan Sopori— the Saint of Santoor — is the living heir of one of India’s most revered musical lineages. He carries the Sufiana Mausiqi tradition of Kashmir: rooted in Sufi devotion, refined over centuries, and passed down through one of the subcontinent’s most celebrated musical families.
This evening is a tribute to his father, and a continuation of his life’s work: the belief that music can open the human soul to its own depth.
Accompanied by santoor player Aakash Brunner and tabla maestro Chanchal Singh, Pt. Abhay Sopori performs in the Amstelkerk — a 19th-century Amsterdam church whose intimate scale and natural acoustics make it one of the most extraordinary spaces in the city for this music.
At a time when the world is searching for peace, we believe that peace begins within. This evening is an invitation — not only to listen, but to act. Together, in the stillness this music opens, we will enter into meditation: a shared moment of inner silence, offered by Sahaja Yoga Meditation as a gesture of peace — from this room, to the world.
Free entry. All are welcome.
